Titan Women 2nd, Men 6th at Monmouth Track Meet

Complete Results, 2010 Monmouth Fighting Scots Invitational

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's track team finished second of 11 teams and the men's team was sixth of 12 teams at the 2010 Monmouth Fighting Scots outdoor track meet on Saturday, May 1.

In the 20-event meet, the Titan women amassed 115.5 points, second only to Monmouth with 132 points. The IWU men scored 48 points as Monmouth was the winner with 164.5 points.

Tyler Saunders was a double winner for the IWU men, winning the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:57.55 and claiming the 800 with a time of 1:55.59. Kevin Kapolnek was fifth (1:57.45) and Max Lustick was sixth (1:57,47) in the 800.

Senior Wally Farris was the winner of the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:45.94 and Alex Lambert finished in a three-way tie for first in the pole vault at a height of 14 feet-10 1/4 inches.

Seniors Ali McCoy (56.06 seconds in the 400) and Emily Hagen (high Jump, 5 feet-3 inches) and sophomores Lauren Alpert (long jump, 17 feet-11 1/2 inches) and Shavantay Thomas (24.33 seconds in the 200) were individual winners for the women.

Thomas got second in the 400 (57.02 seconds) and McCoy placed second in the 200 (24.73 seconds) while senior Kerry Devitt also earned a second place finish with her time of 4:44.42 in the 1500 meter run.

The Titans' 4x400 relay team finished second (with a time of 3:59.94) to Mount Mercy (3:59.26).

IWU women also placed third (Amanda LaRocca, 25.02 seconds), fifth (Alpert, 25.55 seconds) and sixth (Jessica Christy, 25.78 seconds) in the 200 while senior Mackenzie Clemens was fourth in the 800 with a tme of 2:13.01. Senior Ashley Heilingoetter was sixth (2:15.19) and freshman Tara Clemens was seventh (2:18.32).

Both Illinois Wesleyan teams will compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships next weekend.
