Titan Women Set for NCAA D-III Outdoor Track Championships

Illinois Wesleyan will send seven representatives to the NCAA Division III championships May 27-29 in Berea, Ohio, at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium.

The IWU women's team finished seventh in the 2009 NCAA outdoor championships and were the co-national champions in 2008. The Titans won their second straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin outdoor championship this spring.

Senior Amanda LaRocca (Palatine, Ill. HS) will compete in four individual events as well as the 4x100 relay team. LaRocca has the second best national qualifying time in the100 hurdles (14.08 seconds) and the third best in the 100 (11.97 seconds). She posted the country's 13th lowest time in the 200 and her long jump of 18 feet-8 ½ inches is 18th best.
In 2009, LaRocca placed third in the 100 and was sixth in the 200. 

She will be joined in the 100 and 200 for the second straight year by sophomore Shavantay Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods HS), who has the second lowest time in Division III in the 200 (24.33 seconds) and the fifth best time in the 100 at 11.98 seconds. Thomas got seventh place in the 200 in 2009.

Senior Ali McCoy (Irving, Texas/Episcopal School of Dallas) will run in the 200, where her time of 24.73 seconds ranks eighth in the country, and in the 400 with a sixth-best qualifying time of 56.06 seconds. McCoy finished third in the national 200 outdoor meet in 2008.

Senior Mackenzie Clemens (Bloomington, lll. HS) will compete in the 800 with a qualifying time of 2:11.55, eighth best in the spring season.

Sophomore Lauren Alpert (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South HS) is ninth in the long jump with a qualifying standard of 19 feet- ¾ inches. She finished fifth in the event in 2009.

The 4x100 relay team of McCoy, LaRocca, Thomas and Alpert has the nation's second best time of 46.59 seconds and the 4x400 team of McCoy, Thomas, sophomore Jessica Christy (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin HS) and freshman Tara Clemens (Bloomington, Ill., HS) also has the second best time this spring at 3:47.81.
