BEREA, Ohio - Illinois Wesleyan sophomore
Lauren Alpert finished seventh in the long jump and
Amanda LaRocca set a school record qualifying for the finals of the 200 on day one of the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships in Berea, Ohio on Thursday, May 27.
Alpert, who finished fifth in the long jump in 2009, went a distance of 18 feet-4 ½ inches on the first day of competition. The winner was freshman Briana Aiken of Texas Lutheran at 19 feet- 3 ½ inches
LaRocca's school record of 24.11 seconds was the second top time in the 200, behind freshman Ruby Blackwell of Methodist at 24.05 seconds. Sophomore
Shavantay Thomas qualified fifth in the 200 at 24.33 seconds and senior
Ali McCoy was sixth best at 24.34 seconds.
The event's finals will be at 3:35 p.m. Saturday.
The 4x100 relay team of LaRocca, Alpert, McCoy and Thomas qualified second with a time of 46.64 seconds, trailing only Wartburg at 46.22 seconds. The finals will go off at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The 4x400 relay team of McCoy, Alpert, freshman
Tara Clemens and sophomore
Jessica Christy posted the third best time at 3:47.78, behind only Wartburg at 3:44.24 and Massachusetts Inst. Of Technology at 3:47.74. The finals will be run at 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
