BEREA, Ohio - Led by senior Amanda LaRocca, who accumulated 22 points individually and was on two top three relay teams, the Illinois Wesleyan women's track team won its first outright NCAA outdoor track championships, finishing with 54 points to top Wis.-Oshkosh with 53, on Saturday, May 29 in Berea, Ohio, at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium.

The Titans were co-national outdoors champions with Wisconsin-River Falls in 2008 and finished seventh in the 2009 outdoor championships. The Titans were the national Division III indoor champions in 2008 and have also finished fourth indoors in 2006, 2009 and 2010, sixth in 2004, eighth in 2000 and tenth in 2007.
The Titans won their second straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin outdoor championship this spring.

LaRocca placed second in the 100 meter dash at 11.77 seconds and second in the 200 with a time of 24.02 seconds. She was third in the 100 hurdles with her run of 14.10 seconds.

She also ran on the first place 4x100 relay team that posted the nation's best Division III time of 46.07 seconds. In addition to LaRocca, senior Ali McCoy and sophomores Lauren Alpert and Shavantay Thomas comprised the team.

Thomas and McCoy also finished in the top eight in two events – Thomas was third in the 100 (11.83 seconds) and fourth in the 200 (24.19 seconds) while McCoy was seventh in the 200 (24.40 seconds) and eighth in the 400 (56.45 seconds).

McCoy and Alpert were joined by senior Mackenzie Clemens and freshman Tara Clemens for the 4x400 relay team that finished third with a time of 3:46.23. 

On Thursday, Alpert got a seventh place national finish with her long jump of 18 feet-4 1/2 inches.

Ten Illinois Wesleyan teams were involved in NCAA postseason competition in 2009-10: football and women's soccer advanced to the second round; men's basketball went to the final eight and women's basketball to the final 16; softball won three games in the regional; men's golf tied for 15th and women's golf placed 13th in their national tournaments; women's indoor track tied for fourth and the women's outdoor track team and baseball teams won the Division III championship lover the Memorial Day weekend. In addition, IWU has sent individuals to the NCAA championships in women's cross country, women's swimming and men's swimming.
