Seven Qualify at Gregory Invitational

May 21, 2010-- The North Central College men's track and field team recorded one automatic and six provisional qualifiers at the Gregory Invitational held on Thursday and Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
 
Cardinal pole vaulters highlighted the meet on Thursday, sweeping the top three spots in the event. Thomas Stacey hit the automatic qualifying standard to win the event, clearing 16 feet 7 1/2 inches while teammate Steven Stack cleared a season-best and provisional qualifying height of 16' 0". John Wood rounded out the top three, vaulting a provisional qualifying 15'10". On the track, Ryan Carrigan turned in a fourth place showing in the 5,000-meters, crossing the tape in a provisional qualifying effort of 14:39.06.

Chris Kane continued to improve his standing on the national list in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, shaving almost seven seconds off his previous best, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 9:09.69 to place fourth while teammate Dan Buys hit the provisional standard, finishing in 9:21.04.

The Cardinals closed out the meet with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 3:13.43 to comfortably win the event.
 
North Central heads to Berea, Ohio next weekend for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships where the Cardinals will look to capture their first triple crown (cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field national titles) in College history. The Championships get underway on Thursday at 12 p.m. (Eastern Time) and continue through Saturday.
