PALO ALTO, Calif. - Junior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) set a new school record in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. Her time of 2:12.29 topped senior teammate Katie Nowak's (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) 2008 school-record time of 2:12.80 and earned Goldkamp a first-place finish in the Section 1 800-meter race.
Not to be outdone, Nowak also broke her school-record time in the same heat Saturday. Nowak finished with a time of 2:12.54, claiming second place in the Section 1 race. Of the 57 competitors that ran the 800-meter, Goldkamp and Nowak ranked 33rd and 35th, respectively, while Dianne Cummins turned in the event's top time at 2:05.00.
The Braves will return to action next weekend at the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Ill.
