Whitney Young Girls Take Back CPS Title

Washington Park; Chicago-

Maybe it was just a nightmare performance for Whitney Young last year when they finished fifth in the team standings with 102 points. The Lady Dolphins were 53 points behind the victorious Northside Prep Mustangs. The reason things seemed like an aberration is that Whitney Young went on to beat three of the four teams the following week on the same course at the WY Regional. But it's crazy to think with all of the distance history that Whitney Young has, they would have won at least one title since a tie-breaker against four-time reigning champion Northside Prep.

On this day it finally happened as the Lady Dolphins rode a 1-2 finish by senior Ella Behrens and freshman Daphnie Murray. The Dolphins put four runners inside the top 10 which was more than enough to turn back Taft 44-73. Northside Prep was fourth behind Lane Tech.

Behrens roared out to a fast start and was never challenged once she got into the clear. She was on record pace at two miles in 11:36. She would cruise home for the third fastest time in meet history 17:50.
