The Girls Show Out On The DGS Mustang Relays Stage

The 4x800 pack was leaning heavy off of Neuqua Valley's Mikenna Robinson

4x800: The feeling coming into the affair was Hinsdale Central. Recently in an invitational they dropped 2:17, 2:18, 2:19, 2:22 individual 800m marks. So we were ready to see a big meet record and fast times. Nope! The full "A" was not assembled. But thanks to Neuqua Valley junior Mikenna Robinson for the taking the pace out and on her back. She led off and ran coast to coast for her leg under 2:20. The Wildcats led for a short while before Yorkville and Hinsdale Central "B" joined in on the fun. Host Downers South was determined to win this one though. The Mustangs powered themselves to a sizable advantage in the closing stages of the race. The ultimate statement was a big winner in 9:25.32. It appears like a school indoor record, state best, and a stamp inside the meet top five was accomplished. Hinsdale Central and Yorkville placed second and third respectively.

4x200: As expected it was the latter sections that prevailed in getting the job done. West Aurora had claimed their stake in the gold medal sweepstakes on the strength of a Cinnamon Miles tote. She powered her team home in 1:46.58 to win section 4. That would hold up until the last section 6 where Batavia outlasted Whitney Young and Bolingbrook to win in 1:46.56. The times were not as fleet as in past years but the races were clean and clear of the trouble that the boys had. It was also competitive enough to produce IL marks #6 through #9.

4x400: The last event of the day was Whitney Young holding strong in winning in the final section 6 with a time of 4:05.80 and snatch victory over West Aurora who took section 5 in 4:06.31. Five teams dipped under 4:10 which makes the leaderboards look plush as we enter the final month of indoor competition.
