Workout Wednesday: Foot Locker Finalists Bailey Hertenstein & Alyssa Hendrix

Less than ten minutes separates the schools of Riverview sophomore Alyssa Hendrix and Newsome senior Bailey Hertenstein. We caught up with the duo and their coach Stephen Dunn as they prepared for Foot Locker Nationals.

The Workout:

  • Two mile warm up and stretches.
  • 150 at 400 pace and 300 at 800 pace.
  • Water break after two sets.
  • Cool down.

Final Thoughts:

Alyssa Hendrix and Bailey Hertenstein share their thoughts on the workout and the week leading up to their trip to San Diego. For Hendrix, it will be her first time at a national meet. Just a year ago, she was running 18:30, and transitioning from the soccer fields to the cross country course.

For Hertenstein, she has been about as dominant a runner as the Sunshine State has seen over the last four years.Of the 27 races she has completed since 2014, she's lost just two. The Indiana signee was 15th at the Cross Country Finals as a freshman and was defeated by Hendrix once this season. Other than that she has been perfect, winning the last the three 4A Cross Country Finals and making her second straight trip to Foot Locker Nationals. She was 20th last year.

Photo Time:

After the workout was done, the girls took the time to pose for some photos. The first is with their coach Stephen Dunn who the girl's credit for their growth and helping them to get to the stages of their high school careers they are at.

Silliness took a backseat to the fierce serious pose. These girls are ready to take on the best the nation has to offer!
