1A-

IHSA 1A Benton Sectional

Benton Community Park Benton, IL

Milesplit on-site coverage
Boys: #7 Freeburg is the heavy favorite to beat here. The Midgets are coming off of an impressive regional win at New Athens and will look to continue to apply the pressure against all foes. Benton won their regional and Steeleville was victorious at the Carterville Regional... the individual choice may be freshman Justin Mumford of Trenton Wesclin. He has run impressively all season and the win over Charlie Parrish (Sr., Freeburg) at regionals should not be a surprise.

Girls: #12 Freeburg, #24 Breese Mater Dei are the teams to beat here and they will go 1-2. Freeburg beat Mater Dei by 12 points at the New Athens Regional. Breanna Chandler led the way to victory. She will be a candidate for individual honors again. Amelia Mclain (So., Benton) won the sectional last year and is favored once again for the gold medal.

IHSA 1A Carlinville Sectional

Carlinville High School Carlinville, IL
Oct 28, 2017
Boys: #6 St. Joe-Ogden, #8 Urbana University,  #10 Robinson, #12 Carlinville, #16 Lawrenceville, #22 Father McGivney- St. Joe-Ogden was a pre-season pick to win it all. The Spartans could still be on the top of the podium on the afternon of November 4. But in the meantime they are going to have a strong fight against a quality field. Carlinville and Robinson are the other regional winners in the field... Logan Hall (Sr., Arthur) is of course the heavy favorite to breeze in this one.

Girls: #1 Tolono (Unity), #3 St. Joe-Ogden, #10 St. Thomas More, #25 Staunton- Unity won the first round by 10 points over St. Joe-Ogden and round two will be here before you know it. The margin of error will be closer because of more depth and stronger teams. But as always it will come down to a total ground attack from front to the back of the scoring pack. Unity ran 1:18 on their split vs. 1:19 but they had a lower score in the top 10 at the St. Thomas More Regional.

IHSA 1A Lisle Sectional

Lisle Community Park; Lisle, IL
Oct 28, 2017
Boys: #1 Elgin Harvest are the defending state champions and it will be a piece of cake on advancing to state. Don't look for the Lions to take it easy though. They want to put doubt in the other state contenders around the state. The only way to do that is to crush the competition. #15 Clifton Central is the next highest ranked opponent in the field... Jack Mcnabola (Sr., Chicago Francis Parker) is one of the top contenders for an individual title. He will be the highlight of the race.

Girls: #5 Herscher, #9 Kankakee (McNamara), #11 Harvest Academy, #15 Beecher- It is a four team sectional here. Herscher may be the best team coming in as they beat McNamara last weekend at their regional. McNamara had individual winner Faith Provost (Jr.) in the driver's seat. But let's give respect to pack running because Harvest Academy and Beecher will depend on it.

IHSA 1A Oregon Sectional

Oregon Park West Oregon, IL
Oct 28, 2017
Boys: #5 Rockford Christian, #11 IVC, #13 Sterling Newman Catholic, #14 Seneca, #18 Rock Falls- Rockford Christian is the most complete team in the field and they seem destined to win one of the trophies at state the following week. Riley Wells (Jr.) will lead the way for his team and for the individual crown.
Girls: #2 Rock Falls, #13 Johnsburg, #14 Rockford (Christian), #17 Kewanee-Weathersfield, #18 Amboy- sophomore Bailee Fortney was the individual champion for Rock Falls. By the way the Lady Rockets are too strong in this field. Their supporting cast assembles that of a championship caliber team. Johnsburg will battle with a solid cast of teams for second place.

IHSA 1A Sectional - Elmwood

Maple Lane Country Club Elmwood, IL
Oct 28, 2017
Boys: #2 Elmwood, #3 Athens, #4 Deer Creek (Deemack), #9 Monticello, #21 El Paso-Gridley, #23 Tremont, #25 Illini West- This is the top sectional in the classification as it will feature three of the top five ranked teams in the state. Elmwood beat Athens pretty easily a few weeks ago at the Patriot Invite. It's time for revenge now, but even if Athens gets the victory, it would be a consolation prize... Wyatt McIntyre (Sr., Athens) should cruise to victory in this one.

Girls: #4 Monticello, #6 Eureka, #7 Williamsville, #8 Stanford-Olympia, #16 Decatur St. Teresa, #19 Liberty, #20 Springfield Lutheran, #21 Elmwood, #22 Tremont, #23 El Paso-Gridley- without a doubt this is the deepest sectional in the state. Unfortunately only five teams make it state, but you can bet someone here is going to be on the podium next weekend at Detweiller. Monticello may be a slight favorite as they got the best of Eureka last weekend on their home course. The scoring split was more impressive than the point outcome- 58 seconds. The rest of the best will need to finish off their scoring packs in order to advance.
