Athlete: Danny Kilrea
School: Lyons Township High School; LaGrange, IL
Analysis: The two-time cross country all-state athlete took a big leap going from a snazzy 14:08 state runner up finish to the great Soren Knudsen (Minooka). That big leap included winning the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional in the second fastest time ever (14:51.6) on the Laverne-Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, IN. Qualifying for one national championship race appeared to be good enough for Kilrea who concentrated his effort toward NXN where he placed 13th overall, which was the top Midwest finisher.
The track was also nice to Kilrea. He dropped his 3200m personal best from 9:12.90 to 9:00.81, making him the 10th fastest 11th grader in 2017. His mile personal best was solid as well: 4:14.27.
