Defending 3A Girls Champion Naperville North Is Pre-Season #1

There are great coaches and there are great programs. Naperville North head coach Dan Iverson happens to be the epitome of both of those factors. In 2015, as the favorite to win the state championship he was about as calm as you could be in coming up short. Last year in the same spotlight, coach Iverson's demeanor was still at baseline. This season the Lady Huskies are once again tabbed as the favorite and you can bet things will be just as normal.

1. Naperville North

Head Coach/coaches: Dan Iverson/Anna Kraftson, Jen Weigand, Deanna Nesci
Last year's finish: IHSA State Champions; 10th Place @ Nike Cross Nationals

Key returners: Sarah Schmitt (Sr), Hannah Ricci (Sr), Alex Morris (Jr), Claire Hill (Jr) - all were in the top seven last year and Sarah, Hannah and Alex are returning All-State

Projected top 7:  Those four plus Sophie Bruce (Jr), Sam Prazma (Sr), Jill Fitz (Sr), Wagner Osborne (So), Jana Dawson (So), Julia O'Dekirk (So), Karen Hunter (Sr) and Shannon Jennings (Sr) all have potential to make an impact at the top of the line-up.
Newcomers: Nora Fitzgerald (Fr), Madeline Cody (Fr), Jillian Carroll (Fr) are three among a large group of freshmen who are talented and very solid overall.

Coach Iverson's thoughts on team: "We could be pretty good. Obviously, we need to stay healthy and focused. We have much work to do to get to where we can be, but the potential is exciting. We expect to be deep, with a FS and JV teams that should be very competitive, so our top seven has the potential to evolve throughout the year as well. Teams like Yorkville, Glenbard West, Minooka, Hinsdale Central, Downers Grove South and many others figure to be very good, so we know that our work will be cut out for us all year long. We will set our formal targets and goals in the next few weeks, but I expect our sights will be set high. The challenge always, however, is to back up big targets with daily action, and I am confident that we can put ourselves in a position to fulfill our potential this year."
