Girls 4x800

When: Approx. 9:00 PM for the fast section on 4/7

Who: Apex, Mount Tabor, High Point Central, Panther Creek, Cuthbertson and T.C. Roberson

North Carolina will have a strong presence in the fast section of the 4x800 with Apex, Mount Tabor, High Point Central, Panther Creek, Cuthbertson and T.C. Roberson all likely to make the fast section.  Tabor posted the fastest time of this group indoors running 9:40.79 to take 2nd at the 4A NCHSAA Indoor State Championships.  Cuthbertson was the 3A State Champions running 9:47.82.  They haven't run against this strong of a field in this event and if they have senior Lexi Noch healthy, they'll be a force for sure.  But with Sarah LaTour on anchor and a bunch of young talent, you can't count them out of much.  T.C. Roberson was 2nd in this race last year losing to E.C. Glass.  They ran 9:26.15 at the end of the year last season and return their whole team.  High Point Central will yield a very strong team as well led by 2:13 runner Monzerad Creary.  Apex has two strong legs in Calli Parlier and Josie McGee, if they're able to have a strong day from their other two legs they'll be able to contend for a top spot.

Boys 4x800

When: Approx 8:20pm

Who: Millbrook, Marvin Ridge, Mallard Creek, Asheville, Weddington, Providence Day, Cary

Looking at the full field, there is no standout favorites and a lot of NC teams capable of running much faster than their seed times.  We've seen Marvin Ridge, Weddington and Mallard Creek go head to head at the Marvin Ridge Invitational where Marvin Ridge's Mason Bhatia was able to hold off a comeback from Kyle Durham of Weddington on anchor leg.  Mallard Creek had an off day at that meet, but last week proved they're legit with a 8:06 and a 2:04 split from their 1:54 star Canoy Tyree who had the baton knocked out of his hand at the start!  Asheville have had a quiet outdoor season after ending the indoor season with an NC#2 4x800 of 8:08.14 and winning a NCHSAA 3A State Title in the event.  Millbrook hasn't run a 4x800 yet, but will have two strong legs in Luke Gostling and Weston Clayton who have run 2:00 and 2:01 respectively and also have Tucker Cera coming off a big 1600 PR of 4:24.29 winning the Wake County Title.  Andy Bennison will likely make up Millbrook's 4th leg, I think this team will surprise some people on Friday night as they'll be apart of multiple NC teams to dip under 8 minutes.

Girls 200 Trials

When: Approx 5:30

Who: Tamara Clark, Kylia Wright, Kiya Oviosun, Kyna Robinson, and Taylor Scott

It looks like we will have roughly 22 prelim heats for the girls 200 where 16 advance to a 2 section final on Saturday.  Their will be some stiff out of state competition including Jayla Kirkland, Zykeria Williams and a load of girls from Bullis, one of the best sprint schools in the US.  North Carolina will have a strong showing as well headlined by Tamara Clark, Kylia Wright and Kiya Oviosun.  This will be the first test Clark has seen this outdoor season.  Clark was 3rd in the finals last year clocking a 24.59.  Kylia Wright has emerged as a national caliber sprinter over the last few months and she will step up to the big stage once again.   Oviosun had a very strong indoor season running 39.11 for the 300.  She has a PR as good as any in this field of 24.18 and a strong shot to make the finals.  Finals are decided based off time with 16 spots on the line!

Boys 200 Trials

When: Approx 6:15PM

Who: J Johnson, Brandon Ray, Brenton Ervin, and James Maye

This field is full of studs including late entry Elija Godwin (Newton, GA) who has run 21.02 and is the defending champion.  J Johnson (Panther Creek) and Brandon Ray (Athens Drive) battled it out to NC#1 and NC#2 times in the 100 last week at Wake County's.  Johnson has gotten the better or Ray so far this year, but there are still plenty of battles to come.  Johnson was an All-American Indoors in the 200 and has a ton of potential to run faster than his outdoor PR of 21.66.  Brenton Ervin (Mallard Creek) has only run 1 200 this year and it was a 21.84, he will look to get a fast FAT mark and advance to Saturday's final.

Boys 3200 - First 3 Sections

When: Approx 9:15 start

Who: Andy Bennison (Millbrook), Austin hilburn (North Lincoln), Jackson Cathey (North Lincoln), Carson Glatz (Weddington), Jacob Lipsey (Marvin Ridge) and Jake Toomey (Weddington)

The faster 2 of the 5 3200 sections will be run on Saturday, but we still have some great athletes that'll compete Friday night looking for a regional qualifying mark in section 3.

Girls High Jump

When: 5:30 Start Time at 4'10"

Who: Kenya Livingston (Rocky River), Sarah Timberlake (West Forsyth), Kayla Nesbit-McEwen (High Point Central)

Can Kenya Livingston defend her title from a year ago when she jumped 5-6 to win.  Livingston has jumped 5-10 and hopes to inch closer to the 6 foot mark this weekend.  Kayla Nesbit-McEwen has only competed once outdoors, but cleared 5-8 and will look to challenge Livingston.

Friday Night Thunder Shot Put Event

Super elite field of Shot Putters going after Olympic Bronze medalist Reece Hoffa's meet record of 63-7 set in 1997.  All events will are scheduled to stop at 7:00 to highlight the special field that has assembled.  Better yet, it'll be officiated by the King Reece Hoffa himself!  Read more about the event here.
