Quick thoughts: The 2017 track and field season appears to be in full bloom after a strong last weekend that wrecked the leaderboards. There were numerous state leading marks of course, but most impressively were the top 10 marks nationally. Most of us know about the exploits of Homewood-Flossmoor's Jaimie Robinson and KD Young of Warrensburg-Latham. But what most people did not expect was from the sprint arena. The Illinois girls, Dajour Miles as the leader, ran to full brim potential last weekend at the University of Kentucky High School Invitational. The sprints will be deep and that should carry over to the field, relays, and distance running. Don't forget about Mainstay Mariya Hudson of Cahokia. She has been a premier performer since her freshman year. This will be Hudson's Chicago area debut and an opportunity for the great track and field fans in the area to see what she and her state championship level teammates. Lastly, there is Imani Carothers of Chicago Brooks. Like Hudson and the other outstanding girls, she is a winner and this meet is predicated on winning.
