2017 Class 3A Girls Pre-Season Relays Preview

4x800m

2016 State Championship: Hinsdale Central 9:04.27

Outlook: 2016 was another solid year in this event. The traditional distance rich schools like Schaumburg, Glenbard West, Palatine, Yorkville, and of course Hinsdale Central made it clear they were going to be very successful at the end of the season when it counted.

It was a bit of surprise to see Hinsdale Central deciding to load their 4x8 at sectionals instead of going for individual glory across the board as they had done in past years. On paper the Red Devilettes had a near perfect chance of winning state when you added up the potential of each leg. Anne Zaher was a former state champion in the 1600, Grace McCabe and Reilly Revord were all-state cross country runners, and Kayla Byrne was harder than nails as a freshman.

Hinsdale Central and Schaumburg waged a classic battle last spring in Charleston

Schaumburg should be better with all four legs back from a state runner up position. The team's #1 runner is Madison Marasco (Jr.) and she happens to be an elite long distance as evident by her 8th place finish in the cross country state championship last fall. So far Marasco has not shown any indication that she wants to deviate from middle distance running in track.

Glenbard West graduates two important legs but the Hilltoppers shown they can reload quickly. Other teams up for the challenge will be Naperville North, Yorkville, New Trier, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Prospect, Lyons Twp, St. Charles East, Downers Grove East will all be better this season.
