Tony's Take: Quick Thoughts On The Post Season And Who Is #1

The upcoming state championship series will be super intense on the battle field (Mike Jortberg photo)

I once heard a coach say "cross country has a short season. Be prepared!" In many instances he is correct. As soon as the summer is over it is less than 90 days until the state championship. That's quicker than the 90 days same as cash kick in. With that being said it is now state regional time. For many teams it will be a cake walk to the next round. I am willing to bet that some coaches will rest key individuals. I've done that in the past because I knew that the sectional round was more important. Resting is good for this reason: get in another week of high intensity training without sacrificing the drop down for competition. Despite seven teams qualifying for the next round, it is not a guarantee if your regional is loaded. Either way good or bad, fun or boring be prepared mentally for the next round of competition.

Speaking of competition our rankings team has been working hard all season. Ranking editors Ray Lewis and Alex Goodlab are well versed in the team rankings game. They both have done a great job on the IL Saucony Flo 50 every week. But the biggest task for them is the upcoming individual series "Who is #1?" This super duper work of art will have a personal stamp on it. I've asked them to pour their hearts into being subjective regarding the top 25 athletes. It will draw some thought provoking views for sure. The intended purpose is to get you all excited for the post-season. Ray will contend with the 2A/3A boys while Alex tackles the 1A ranks. I have jumped in as well. I will cover the 2A/3A girls. Look for the initial items to drop Friday morning. The deep content pieces will be available via our premium guides. You will need a subscription to view it. In the meantime while you are waiting check out the teasers:
