The second full day of the USATF JO Championships was full of excitement and oppression heat. It was reported that temps got up to 107 degrees followed by a heat index of 125 degrees!

Here are a few key highlights from some of the state's top athletes:

  • Track My Speed Track club kicked things off with members from four different high schools but they all are friends and great teammates. The 17-18 girls 4x800 relay was won by Coach Abe Jones' tight knitted group. FAT splits go as follow: 2:24.73, 2:20.01, 2:21.46, 2:15.58
  • Kathleen KD Young (Warrensburg-Latham) wins her first national championship in the girls 17-18 shot put with a heave of 48-6.75
  • John Meyer (Lockport) grabs third in the boys 15-16 boys shot put with a toss of 60-2.5
  • Gabrielle Desrosiers (Chicago North Lawndale) advances to the 200m semi finals in 24.72; Tashee Hargrave (Neuqua Valley) advances as well
  • Vincent Gordon (Champaign Centennial) and Jeremiah Davis (Chicago Collins) advanced to the 200 semi-finals with 21.78 and 21.65 respectively 
  • The Boys 17-18 800m semi finals will feature Antonio Davis (Bloom Township), Isaiah Robinson (Neuqua Valley) and Thomas Mosley (Zion-Benton) 1:55.15, 1:57.08, 1:55.56
  • Tayla Schwarz (Dixon)  gets 2nd place in the girls 15-16 shot put 42'4.75"
