AAU Northern Track & Field Invite Preview

AAU Northern National Invite: WATCH LIVE!


The 2016 Northern National Track & Field Invitational begins on Thursday, July 21st  at 9:00am CT with the 3000 meter run and will wrap up Sunday afternoon with the 4x400 meter relay.

You can watch LIVE on MileSplit starting at 9:00AM CT on Thursday, continuing at 9:00AM on Friday, 9:00AM on Saturday and from 8:30AM to 2:00PM on Sunday.

The four days of competition will feature action across 11 different age groups that will showcase some of the top young talent in the region! As you get ready for the action to kick off, take a look at the top events and athletes to watch (see all meet entries here):

Girls

15-16 400m

When: Prelims: Friday, July 22 2:30pm CT; Finals: Sunday, July 24 9:30am CT 
Why: Well known across the state of Illinois, and running for Aurora Flyers Track Club, the rising sophomore Dajour "Cinnamon" Miles comes into the 400m ranked 2 seconds ahead of the next competitor with a time of 55.42.  It should be an exciting race for the Aurora Flyers Track Club since the first 3 girls ranked are all from that same team.  Miles is also competing in the 100m, and is also ranked number one in that event as well.  Be sure to tune in!

17-18 100 Hurdles

When: Prelims: Saturday, July 23 1:45pm CT; Finals: Sunday, July 24 11:45am CT
Why: Imani Carothers of Illinois fame is set to compete in the 100 hurdles along with the long jump.  After an amazing outdoor season including 3 2A State Titles and tying the long jump state record, Imani looks to keep improving this summer!  She comes into the 100 hurdles with the only seed time below 14 seconds, and only .54 seconds off the AAU Junior Record! Carothers is also ranked number one in the long jump.  

15-16 800m

When: Saturday, July 23 3:15pm CT
Why: Only a rising sophomore, Arielle Summit comes in with an impressive 800m seed time of 2:12, Summit is ranked 8 seconds faster than the next competitor.  Her time is only 5 seconds off the AAU Junior Record! Summit is also competing in the 1500, but comes in with no time, so it should be interesting to see how well her speed lasts for a longer race! 

Boys

15-16 400m
When: Prelims: Friday, July 22 2:30pm CT; Finals: Sunday, July 24 9:30am CT
Why:  Adams, running from Aurora Flyers Track Club, is ranked number one in the 400m with a very impressive seed time of 48.83.  This is 3 seconds faster than the next competitor, and only 2 seconds off of the AAU Junior Record!  Adams is also ranked number one in the 200m by a good amount as well! Watch Brandon live in both the 200m and 400m this weekend!

17-18 400 Hurdles

When: Saturday, July 23 9:00am CT
Why: Kirkwood is the hurdler to beat!  As a top hurdler in the state of Illinois, he comes in with a seed time almost 10 seconds faster than the next competitor in the 400 hurdles, and has an impressive time of 53.00.  He also is ranked number one in the 110 hurdles, and is the only competitor with a time below 15 seconds.  Be sure to watch Tyler live in both his hurdling events! 

17-18 100m Dash

When: Prelims: Friday, July 22 9:00am CT; Finals: Sunday, July 24 9:00am CT
Why: Vincent Gordon, #4 in the 100m and #9 in the 200m for the state of Illinois will be racing fast for sure!  Racing for The Vipers Track Club, Gordon comes into the meet this weekend ranked number one for both events.  Be sure to watch for Vincent in these two events; there will definitely be fast times!
