Gene Armer Invitational To Take Hold Amid Conference Weekend

It will be the last call for... ahh.. for many of the participants in the upcoming 38th installment of the Gene Armer Invitational, who are looking to earn final indoor bests marks and/or improve rankings standings in hopes of getting bids to the Illinois Top Times. The meet is hosted by Urbana HS, but it's held inside the cozy U of Illinois-Champaign Armory Track & Floor. Ironically the biggest co-ed meet will be held right in the smack in the middle the conference weekend action.

The boys side of the ledger should be an interesting one with upstart programs Chicago Morgan Park and Triad looking to score some big points. The Mustangs will be strong in the field and in the sprints. They are especially tough in the 4x2 relay. Triad will counter with star speedster Adam Nelson. Nelson will carry his team on his back. Don't leave out Crete-Monee. They have had success here before.

The girls title hopes will lay with Bloom Township, Danville, Crete-Monee, and Chicago Morgan Park. These schools should display some firepower in the sprints. It will be interesting to see how last year's 2A state runner-up Morgan Park fares after the exodus of several top performers in 2015.
