DGS Mustang Relays Snap Recap

It was a night to remember inside the North Central College Recreation Center Monday evening. Orland Park (Sandburg) boys 4x800 relay was the main highlight for the boys and Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East) dominate much of the action on the girls side.

  • 4x800: The Sandburg distance train continues to roll and they did at the expense of Illinois' best Monday evening in Naperville. The team of Martin Skucas, Sean Torpy, Dylan Jacobs, and Chris Torpy went to work like surgeons saving the lives of heart patients. The end result was a US #1 7:45.80 MONSTER PERFORMANCE. The record breaking quartet was actually trailing after the first leg, but that did not deter the game plan coming into the race. The Eagles effort rates #2 all-time indoors in state annals only trailing the then national record setting York bunch that ran 7:42.6 back in 2000... second place finisher Lyons Township should be omitted from a great performance as well. Had the Lions ran their indoor best 7:55.38 three seasons ago they would be meet record holders. Chicago Whitney Young battled Lyons back and forth for two and a half legs before settling for third place 8:01.24.
  • 4x200: Downers Grove North pulled the upset in section 4 of 6 with a total team effort that did not exactly surprise their coaching staff. The Trojans dropped a 1:32.06 and had to sit through the final two sections and when Minooka's winning time of 1:32.17 in section six popped up, it was time for celebration. Plainfield East ran 1:32.23 ahead of Neuqua Valley for third.
  • 4x400: Neuqua Valley got in on the winning act taking final section of six in 3:25.09. Minooka was second in 3:25.45.
