Cameron Takes Top Three Finishes In Chicagoland At Elite Throws Competition

The top high school throwers in the country mixed with elite/professional athletes in the Chicagoland Throwers Series. Heavy rains swept through the windy city in the morning and delayed the meet for an hour. The setback might have caused for some athletes to be off of their personal bests, but the competition still proved worthy of their rankings.

Earlier in the week, Lloydricia Cameron was getting settled in her Gainesville dorm at the University of Florida. Cameron, a two-time state champion in the discus and three time state champion in the shot put, finished second behind the nation's top shot putter, Raven Saunders of South Carolina. The Miami Northwestern standout hurled the implement 46-11.5 nearly 10 feet behind Saunders who won with a monster throw of 56-04.

The discus which might be Cameron's stronger event, was a closer competition. Top ranked Kiana Phelps of Missouri won the event with a throw of 149-03. Saunders was only an inch off the lead with a mark of 149-02 with Cameron third launching the discus 148-06.

Cameron will end her high school career as one of the most successful throwers in the state and will set the bar high for future field event stars. It's been a joy to watch Lloydricia over the last four years and we look forward to big things from her at the next level.
