Illinois State Meet Highlights

3A Boys: Patrick Perrier took the race as expected, crossing the line in 14:21 to defeat Jesse Reiser (14:23) and Zach Smith (14:23).  The team race as where the action was with Hinsdale Central coming out on top led by Billy Magnuson (8th).  Their 32 second spread gave them 99 points to defeat Downers Grove North (144, two in the top 10), O’Fallon (157) and Lyons Township (190, 17 second spread).  The Long Green Line will have to wait next year to go for their 29th state title, coming up in 5th place this year.

3A Girls: Mimi Smith captured the victory in a quick 16:43, two second over Alexa Haff.  Madeline Perez was third but led her team to victory with only 75 points.  Naperville North took second with 112 while New Trier (173) and Palatine (214) rounded out the top four.

2A Boys: John Wold (Glenbard South) defeated Johnny Leernez (Danville) and Jake Hoeffert (Yorkville) by two seconds.  Yorkville had a solid 1-2 punch with Hoeffert’s (Jake and Luke) finishing 3rd and 4th.  After watching the girls win, the boys did the same with 119 points to place ahead of Illiana Christian (134) and Vernon Hills (136)

2A Girls: With the fastest time of the day, Mailin Struck stormed to a 16:35 to capture the state title over Peoria Notre Dame’s Mary Jeanne Gilbert, 29 seconds back. Yorkville, led by Skyler Bollinger, captured the team title.

1A Boys: Jon Davis, a sophomore from Oakwood, pulled away from the back, winning in a time of 14:43.  Nick Hess of St. Thomas More finished second.  The team title went to Elmwood with 161 points, six ahead of Winnebago.

1A Girls:  Freshman phenom, Anna Sophia Keller, blistered a 16:35, the fastest time of the day, to win by 45 seconds.  Decatur St. Teresa took the team title with a strong showing from Rachel Devereux, fourth.
